Two questions about internet browsers

Question one: I am tired of the ads and banners on webpages, is there a good program for Firefox that stops them?

Question two: I have a friend that has a computer that everyone uses, and you guessed it, it gets hit hard with porn. I am tired of cleaning this computer of adware, malware, blah, blah, blah, so the owner and I decided to use the content controls in IE. Now it wont let us on any site. It keeps asking for the password which we have but dont want to have to keep putting it in on every site. He has ebay as the home page and it wont let us on there. I have every bar set to the highest content allowable. We told the other users it is a trojan horse that will not allow them on. Do we have any other options? I thought about hiding Firefox other than on the desktop but this will only last for awhile till the others find out we are serfing the net. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.( By the way, telling 4 or 5 horny guys not to look up porn is not an option, that have to be fooled!!)

On another note, I have a message on my forum page that states I have not posted. I feel bad about this, but I know very little about computers and do not want to send someone in the wrong direction. The guys on here that answer the questions really know their stuff. I usually do a search before asking questions. Sorry for not being able to help much, and thank you for all the help I have gotten. Thanks.

Sounds like you have the privacy level set all the way up and it is blocking cookies from the ebay site.
Back it down untill it lets you into whatever site you need to use and you can raise it back up when you are done.
As far as the password thing, if you don't delete the cookies from those sites, some of them should open without reentering it and others might want it every time.
There are quite a few password manager programs, some of which are probably free.
You might want to look into one of them.
Can't make a reccommendation there because I don't know much about them.

i would backup the pc, ad reformat it with a fresh copy of windows, then setup a limited user account for all that porn surfing that goes on, or better yet take a look at this post. it has tools you can use to isolate/ stop malware and viruses from getting a foot hold on a pc.

Are you talking about the message on this forum that says that you haven't posted in awhile? If so don't worry about it. It's just part of the software that is meant to get people involved.

Thanks for all the replies.

Jay, I have it sent to where it allows everything. The only way it allows us back on is if I disable it.

OB1, I have all the programs I need to remove the tracking cookies and malware. They just look at so much porn it slows the computer down until I clean it again. The user account sounds like an option through.

rckershaw, I will give these programs a try. The banners and ads are not a problem, they are just annoying.

raftero, I will try that program.

mairving, yes this is what I am talking about, I just dont want to be a mouch.

What I am doing for now is hiding Firefox in a desktop folder so the actual owner of the computer can serf the net when the guys are not around.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and replies. I will give them a try.

Frankly, I'd tell the porn-surfers to get their own computers. No way would I allow somebody else to put my data at risk.

Have you checked into software like NetNanny? That may be a better option for content control.

Tell them to stop looking at porn and go out and find a significant other. In the meantime password the computer - through a windows password - so nobody but you two can even access the computer, let alone look at porn.

Telling them to stop looking up porn is not an option, one of the guys doing it is his roommate and he is there when the owner isnt home. I am just tired of cleaning the computer. It takes almost 4 or 5 hours to run all the programs to get it good and clean. The sad thing is they all have significant others.

Right now, IE comes up wanting a password. I told them that it is a trojanhorse that is causing this and I cant seem to pull it out. They will find out sooner or later, but hopefully they will have given up on the porn.

Thanks for the help.

Found out why it wont let us on ebay and all other sites. They are not rated and the content advisor will not let you on unrated sites. Under properties you can tick "Allow users to see unrated sites", but this allows everything including porn. I have adjusted the slide bars all the way down and it still lets me into the porn.

Any suggestions? I have downloaded a new content advisor but I need a .rat file for the IE content advisor to recognize it and I cant find it. I am trying ICRAplus.

I have a question, why don't you use Firefox on both computers? Why have Firefox on one computer and IE on the other computer?

I personally like Firefox. It's so much better than IE.
