Internet History

I saw someone posted there are files hidden that track your websites visited even after erasing cache and cookies and all. But I was wondering if I can see that files and revisit the website... One of my bosses is very angry because I cleaned up her computer and erase all the history and she does not remember the web based email site that has access to some specific bank account or something that she needs to access right away.

Does anyone know if there are any tools you can recover internet history? I doubt if there are but if there are, I may be able to hold on to my job...

Thanks in advance.

I have no sympathy with people that rely only on the history to retain sites - that's what favorites/bookmarks are for.

Try data recovery software.

You could maybe try a program like "RecoverMyFiles", that pulls up data from the HDD. When you delete things, they are only "deleted" from the table of contents, but they are actually still there on the disc. Until they are written over, anyway.

Plus, if it works, she will think you are extra high-tech, and promote you. So you can make extra huge mistakes later.

Oh, like glc said.

You might want to "educate" her while you are at it. If you didn't manually delete the the history, it would have eventually expired and she would be in the same situation.

Yes, I will. I thought I was doing a favor for her.

But anyways, I got on her compter and tried pcinspector. It doesn't really look for web history unless I missed something. Yet, I can see that it could help in case of catastrophe...

Oh, well. I guess I'll start looking for a job then.

Thanks so much, guys.

A program for data recovery probably won't have a "web history" setting. Just set it to recover everything (preferably to an alternative drive) and then go thru and pick out what you need to keep.

Ok, turned out, it WAS favorits / bookmark that someone else deleted or she doesn't remember deleting. So system recovery did the work. Or something else I did during this chaos.

How would it appear on, say, pcinspcetor, then? Addresses just show up on the list? Just curious.

Thanks

I'm not sure what handles the history in IE - it may be all in the index.dat - which recreates if deleted and you won't get the old one back.

You are right. It was in index.dat. Like you said, it only goes back to the last time I cleaned up the disc....

In that case, get her to google what she remembers. Chances are, it'll find the email service she was using.

Thanks, but it's all good now. Like I said, it's all fixed. I would google whatever I remember, but she was very upset when it happened. So, I stayed out of her way....
