Modem for special digital phoneline (internal college phoneline)
My friend has just moved into residence at college, and they said that the phoneline doesnt work w/ dial-up modems.
I think this would be a similar if not identical system as ive heard is used in hotels for special digital phones. If you use a modem on it, it will fry the modem, cuz its a different type of line. They do offer @Home, but she cant afford it (being a college student). Are there any special dial-up modems that will work on this type of phone line?

A college with no network? I hope they aren't charging much for room and board much less tuition.
I have used conventional modems on digital phone lines - you will connect anywhere from 14400 to 21600 on the ones I have seen. Use the cheapest winmodem you can find for this one in case the line does fry it - you aren't out much. Check the phone itself for a data port - if you find one, it's safe. |
