IE explorer 5 dies with multiple windows open
If I open multiple windows of IE 5, it always causes kills(locks up or makes an error) some or all of these windows after a few minutes. This is on Win 98 and Win 95. Help what is wrong? Will IE 6 fix that?

How many windows are we talking about here and how much RAM do you have?

Usually, three to five windows. I have 192mb of PC100 RAM. For some reason tonight I have been lucky. Six windows and no errors yet! Sometimes I get as many as ten windows open, but 3 to 5 is more normal. Internet connection is 48kps.

Is it site/content specific? Do you notice that you've got lockups with say multiple windows using java or the like? Or can it just be blank IE windows. How about trying about:blank in multiple windows?

Usually, I have a variety of sites open. Perhaps a couple PC Mechanic windows, a 1911forum.com, a yahoo mail, a my yahoo, etc. That would be a fairly common group, but the problem de=oesn't seem site specific. Sometimes it happens right away when I have three windows working to get to the my yahoo home page. IE 5 never crashes if I just use one window, but I'm at 48kps, so that's not much of an option.

If by patches, you mean Windows Upadate then yes. I usually am pretty up to date with that. BTW this happens on my work and home computer. Are you guys also surfing with multiple windows to avoid the wait?

Yes .. I usually have a ton of windows open all the time, no lockups.
Ok if you have the patience to troubleshoot, how about turning off Java first and seeing, then if it stilllocks .. turn off scripting .. see if it has anything to do with the scripting that is causing it. If its not the scripting, then try repairing Internet Explorer |

I may have figured this out. If I have 5 or more windows open, it looks like I run out of RAM. This is from looking at the unsused physical memory graph in the system moniter. Can this be with 128mb of RAM? Also, I had 192mb, but the 64mb chip was giving me BIOS errors on startup. I took it out and this seems to have eliminated random crashing. Is that possible? Does RAM go bad over time?
