Question Fictional LAN stops java from working in Firefox 2

I have no network. I have only one computer & one dialup connection. However, I mistakenly created a LAN connection in addition to my dialup. Noone (and that includes Earthlink support) has been able to remove it so far. "Delete" is grayed out.

I've installed the most recent Java Runtime Environment. However, it won't work in Firefox. In fact, it won't let me make Mozilla Firefox my default browser! Instead, it challenges me to prove I'm the administrator and authorized to make browser changes. It also suggests that Java may not be enabled in my browser. However, all boxes are checked to enable Java in my browser (Firefox 2).

I can't even use instant chat support in Earthlink, without first switching to IE to get the necessary Java to open the chat popup window.

If noone can figure out how to remove that fictional LAN from my connections, it occurs to me that I may need to pretend I'm an administrator, create a password, and thereby authorize myself to change the JRE settings to include Firefox as my default browser. At present, seems that's the only way Java may work for me in FF2.

Any ideas?

Is your user account an administrator or a limited account?
