I have a conexant 56k V90 modem, Win98SE. Whenever I am downloading a big file i start off around 4 -5 kbs, but as the download progresses it gradually slows down to below 2kbs. this seems to happen no matter the time of day or the ISP i am logged on with.

What is your indicated connect speed? How powerful is your CPU - is that a winmodem or a hardware modem? Exact brand and model would help here. What is your driver version if it's a winmodem?
