Strange problem logging into secure pages
I've been having a strange problem with the PC at my office. It all started whith me being unable to log into MSN messenger through trillian. Yahoo seemed to work fine but not MSN.
Then, whenever I try to open the gmail or yahoo mail pages I get an error in both IE and firefox saying that the page could not be found. I just did a virus check and some trojan was found (using AVG) but itr was now removed. Still I get the same problem. Everything seems to work fine on the rest of the PC at the office (although they are macs). Any ideas? Thanks |

Do you have Norton or McAfee's Internet Security installed on the computer?

Norton internet security WAS installed. Apparently that was the problem. It seems that the virus damaged NIS. Everything seems to be working fine now but I'm only left with MS firewall!

Just put AVG on there and install some anti-spyware and you should be okay.

Thanks for the help. I tried to install Zonealarm but it would not run after reboot. I've had this problem with zonealarm with other PCs and even on clean Win XP installations.

If you are behind a router, the Windows firewall is adequate and a lot less hassles than a 3rd party security suite.
