Ie 7
Well, Windows Update keeps nagging me to install IE 7. Being that I don't use IE ever, I could care less really, but it is afterall an update. What do you guys say, should I install it or is it going to crash my perfectly stable system?

Too many of my customers are calling with conflicts after installing IE7 as a "Critical Update". I suggest they uninstall and use the Custom Scan at WU, then select to not show me this update again.

I put it on even though I never use it, and I too have had no problems what so ever.

I'm still going to delay on it for a while...I've seen a few strange issues with it on a few client machines.

MSIE7 is the only browser on my laptop. No real issues, though I have come across a number of "non-IE" coded websites that would not show correctly. That would be a problem, I'd imagine, in IE6 as well.

Overall though, IE7 is a great - and stable - improvement over IE6. |

Ie7
Has anybody had problems saving a webpage since installing IE7?
I refer to a lockup when saving the page. I've had few probs.with this when using IE6. |

I installed it the other day finally. So far no problems really, although I don't use it that much. I do use Maxthon though, which uses the IE core files, so one would think if a problem exists in IE it would also show up in Maxthon. Only thing it did that I didn't like was that it installed a file called ctfmon.exe in my startup files. This has something to do with MS Office, which I don't even have, so why it felt compelled to install this and chew up some of my memory by doing so, I have no idea. Got rid of that though and so far so good.

My sister has it installed on a new build and having no problems.
Currently my machine is unstable, so I'm holding off on it. Don't use it much anyway. As long as IE 7 is just enhanced features that are mostly cosmetic, I just keep the update hidden and keep IE 6's security patches up to date.

Since IE7 does not run on Windows 2000, I believe this is MS's first step in discontinuing support on it. |

Delayed - then put it on - then deleted immediately after. Never used IE anyway.

Well, I tried to give it a go the other night. It went through the whole IE7 updating process only to tell me the update was NOT successfully installed. Rebooted a couple times and tried again, still no go. Go figure....
No clue what went wrong but if it had to download files for the install of the net I don't think it ever successfully connected to Microsoft's servers. Oh well, maybe some other time.

You know from what I can gather after reading people's experiences--both in this thread and around the net--it seems people are more likely to have problems if they install IE7 as an update. Either thru automatic updates or thru WU.
I'm sure there are other reasons for an unsuccessful upgrade, but installing, as much as possible, as if it were a third party program I think would cause less headaches. So when you get ready to try again, you might consider downloading and saving the setup files to disk or ordering the CD. Then do a clean install with the exception of uninstalling the old version. That's my plan when I do get around to it, along with going off line and disabling firewall and antivirus. That is also how the shop my sister bought her PC from did it--the setup file was still on her desktop when she first fired it up. |

Thanks guys -- Funny thing is that I did step through the IE 7 wizard once it launched and after it was through got the message that it did not install successfully. Oh well, I'll take your advice and download the setup files straight from Microsoft when I'm ready to give it another go. Thanks again.

Additionally, I've noticed the validation sometimes takes up to 5 minutes to complete. When you get to the step asking you to validate, just be patient with it.

Updating a fresh install of XP with IE7 goes real easy. Perhaps a system that's all cluttered up is a different story. I just set up a brand new eMachine for my sister's kid on Xmas, all I did was fire it up, uninstall the preinstalled crap, run a registry cleaner, then took a trip to Windows Update. Took all the updates including IE7 and it went smooth as silk.

The only two things I have noticed so far is that it is slow to load after startup or reboot of my machine, after I have launched it at least once it starts straight away and sometimes it hangs a second or two before closing, apart from that I haven't had any other problems.

Thanks!
After reading all reviews on IE7 I think I will wait for a while my system is beautifully stable and besides I am trapped on dial up so dont have a couple of hours to spare. |

Had bad experience installing IE7 from Windows update. Mouse scroll was affected and I genuinely hate the interface...nothing is familiar. IE6 works fine for me.

IE 7 is wonderful. I personally keep all my systems super clean and don't install uneccessary software. IE 7 does all the things I need. But installing IE 7 on an cluttered and unclean system has had its problems. On a clean install of XP it installs like a breeze. I just finished a clean install about 2 hours ago. I wouldn't hurt to download and install IE 7. The only problem I got with IE 7 is no support for windows 2000. which is the OS of choice for me. Oh well I ll just stick with IE 6.
