Firefox - Number Of Downloads Limited

Just completed a fresh install of XP Pro and I notice that when I am attempting multiple downloads using Firefox it will only initiate 2 at a time. How do I change this?

Another think I noticed that seemed strange is that when I have 2 downloads going at the same time Firefox won't even let me surf to another site until one of the two is completed. What's that about?

Thanks for your time.

Type about:config in Firefox and look at the entries in the network.http section - your issue may be in there.

Typically websites will limit you to only 2 downloads.
For example if you are downloading 2 files from http://www.domain.com then you could not navigate to http://www.domain.com/somepage.html because that would require a 3rd download (to download the html page), so you would have to wait for one of the other 2 downloads to finish before http://www.domain.com/somepage.html would load.

It has nothing to do with multiple tabs or browsers, it's just the way internet servers typically work.

I've had the same issue though, and opening a new tab or window was all I needed to do to resolve it.

Pam - GLC - Faulkner

Found this on the site that pam123 suggested...

"You can increase the value of the pref network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server in about:config
Default is 2, anything over 10 is considered poor etiquette and may cause problems.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server#Recommended_settings"

Way to hit the bullseye you 3. Thanks you!

I did not know you can control it at the browser level. Thanks for pointing it out.

I know on the web servers I set up, I always set the max persistent connections per client to 2, so this would ignore the browser setting.
