Which Browser??

I think I will get varying opinions on this topic but need to know which browser works best with XP. I just finished a clean install. I have nevr used anything but IE and right now I am running ver.6. My main problem with it is I always get the little boxes that popup say "sorry for any inconvience but IE will now close" Some error message, and happend all the time.
I did install mozilla one time very breifly and went back to IE just because I was familiar with it, but reay to change and learn a new one.
So, which one does the better job??

The 3 main choices are:
-IE 6 or 7
-Firefox
-Opera

All can be used for free and all have their own fanboys. I use IE7 most of the time and FF on occasion. Both are good.

Personal preference really, you can choose between IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc. But at the end of the day it is all down to what you like.

is the IE & better than the 6? I mean by that less errors wanting to send back to microsoft. It may have just been my PC but they came up all the time.

I prefer Maxthon over Firefox since it is based off of IE, but it has a much smaller user base so it's slightly less polished.

Probably be about the same or worse. IE errors like that aren't extremely common but if you keep having problems maybe FF or Opera is a better fit for you. IE7 is also a bit more memory/processor intensive. It does offer some improvements like tab-browsing over IE6.

Opera for speed
Firefox to do anything you want (insane amount of functionality via extensions)
IE7 for i dont know what else really.

i use firefox cause Adblock and CustomizeGoogle makes me never see an add, i can do quick tabs like IE7 with an extension and i use foxytunes to control my winamp.

this is just me but i do not like the new UI for IE 7. I like firefox because of all the extensions and themes you can pick from.

I would use Firefox 2. Using Firefox, the tweaks, and an add-on called Adblock Plus, is all you would need. I have done every tweak for Firefox, including setting it to high priority on load. This is great, however, if you are viewing a page with tons of flash or other active x, it will be slower. Probably depends on your specs, though. My Adblock Plus filters list, will remove any ad/popup/other junk, http://nodda4me.net/filters.txt

As yet another browser debate rages. Try them all, use which one you like best. Except for IE, any browser can be easily installed and uninstalled. I have about 6 browsers on this machine, and I have Opera set as my default because that's the one I happen to like the best.

I used IE, I usex Maxthon, I used FF for quite a while, I used Opera and I used Konqueror a bit. I like opera best so thats what I use. Its that simple. Try them and use what you like. There's no point having other people tell you what they like.

Exactly. Try them all and then you decide which one you want to use.

Is Opera really faster? I'm getting annoyed in how FF2 is slowing down.

Maybe I should try Adblock.

Depends what you mean by "slowing down". If FF2 feels sluggish while surfing ad-free pages, installing ad-block won't help... in fact, it'll probably just make it load even slower at startup

Install Opera on your computer and do a side by side comparison between the two...then you'll see exactly which one is faster on your computer.

I really want to like Opera (love the wand feature), but it's giving me 100% CPU usage on certain pages that I use frequently. I might try a fresh install, but feel myself slowly being drawn back into the IE 7 fold.

Not me, I'm totally into Firefox 2. Opera proved to be too quirky for me. It would stagger as it moved to the next page and it wouldn't show any indication that it was loading a new page, that irritated me.

Firefox 2 is smooth, pretty fast and it does what I want it to do.

I just with it had an icon for generating a new tab like IE and Opera does.

Ctrl+T, Tim. You are too mouse-centric. Computers had keyboards long before they had mice.

Sometimes I don't feel like manipulating a mouse and sometimes I don't feel like manipulating the keyboard.

One day speech recognition will be very precise and it will be like on Star Trek.

Tim.......view, toolbars, customize - there's a new tab icon that can be added to a toolbar. Just drag it to where you want it.

That's intriguing. But the need for a headset/mic kills it.

I mean, did Capt. Kirk need a headset? Nooooooooooooo!!!

I've got to say, I'm back to an IE user after the release of 7 on my work Windows machine.

Reasons:
- Uses *significantly* less memory than FireFox
- Equivalent FF extensions for what I use are available in IE7
- We are a 100% MS shop, so everything works in IE7
- I really like the new interface
- Only a negligible amount slower than FF, but for the lower memory use I can gladly deal with it
- Built in FTP client

I generally like IE 7 as well, but the difference in options when compared to FF or Opera has steered me away from IE 7 as my main browser for the time being, or at least until the IE7 team introduces more customization options. Right now I'm truly hooked on Saved Sessions, Tabs Trashcan, Password Wand, etc.

I use them all, firefox 2 is my favorite, but depending on what kind of web page I look at I may have to use a different browser for it to work right.

They have an add-on for FF2 that puts a tab in the browser that will open up a IE browser.

Don't forget about mouse guestures; I adore them. Native in Opera and available in firefox via extension.
