Hey all.

I got my computer two weeks ago. Built it myself. And I've been having troubles with my downloads ever since.

When I try downloading something, it freezes part way though the d/l. Well, the wierd part is, that it dosen't always freeze. When i tried downloading a file for Unreal Tournament this past week, it took a dozen tries over a few days to finally get it. The wierd part is that i always tried d/ling it from the same server and at first it froze, then finally it didnt.

I've had troubles d/ling anythign from netscape, to winamp, to a simple 40kb image a friend tried to send me. But then, I've been able to d/l the Deux Ex demo(140mb) and many other things.

When a download bugs, it usually always bugs at the same place. Like netscape for example. It would download perfectly up to 13.4 mb of the 18mb file. But at 13.4 it froze. So I canceled it and tried again. And once again it froze at 13.4mb. My brother said it might be because it was in the cache. So, i deleted what was in the cache. Still froze at 13.4mb.

One thing which I think may be at least partially to blame, is the IRQ setting for my network card. It is currently set at IRQ 11. But so is my sound card, my video card and my UDMA66(which i dont even use). And thanx to the wonderfull win2k, I can't change te IRQ. (if anyone can tell me how, plz do)

I have also tried different PCI slots, to no avail. I wanted to try another network card that a friend lent me. But win2k dosent recognise it.

Anyways.. If anyone has any idea on what could be the problem here, please tell me. I'm getting desperate.

oh, btw. I'm running win2k, but i tried under win98 as well, and it didnt work either. And I've got an Be6-II with a PIII-667, 128RAM, Viper770, SBLive! Value and my network card is an aOpen one. Model number ALN-325C. And also I share a cable modem with my two brothers.

thanx in advance for any help..

You could try getting NetMedic, or Go!Zilla.

Go!Zilla lets you restart broken downloads. Can your brothers download the files?

I partially answered your question in the 56k forum - you need to change this machine from an ACPI machine to a standard computer - I think its in the properties of My Computer somewhere. This will get things on their own IRQ's.

I just remembered reading about a bug....if you are using IE, it does have a documented bug about pooping out at 13 megs.....I dont remember the fix though.....might be easier to get a FTP program and use it to download Netscape.

It wont be the IE bug. Cause netscape bugged at 13 mbs, but other stuff bugs at whatever.. I tried dowloading some 300kb images yesturday. Couldn't get most of them, they would freeze anywhere between 30kb and 250kb. Though I could get some of them.

I'll try the ACPI thing. *prays that it works*
