Question FTP Server

I want to set up an FTP server. I have an extra computer around this place and I want to set it up to be running at all times and for me to be able to access the files that I want off of it from an internet address. I also want to password protect the files if at all possible. I looked into Filezilla and other software, but I am a bit confused on where to start! Please help! Thanks

If you're planning to run an FTP server on a windows system, Filezilla will be more than enough to get you on your way.

I'll be here to answer any questions you have.

Filezilla comes in two flavours, the server, which would be installed (of course) on the server hosting the files. The second, the client, can be used by any computers connecting to the server, but is not needed, as windows contains its own FTP manager itself.

Once you install the server, by default, it will let anybody access the administrator's panel, so the first thing you should do is set a password. (It is in the options menu).

Main thing to know in the main server window is that there are three main groups of buttons, options (general settings), users (needed to allow people access to your files), and groups (which are more advanced).

You will need to set up some users. If you have trouble, ask your questions here.

Question Difference Between Server and Client?

Is there a different name between the Filezilla server and the Filezilla client?

The server is the server and the client is the client. You use the client to access the server.
