Setting up FTP on XP Pro w/NTFS

Okay, here is the deal, I am learning how to setup FTP on XP Pro using existing XP Pro applications. With the help of someone I just learned how to setup FTP loading IIS, to make it anonymous or create one or more ID's and a central location per ID, and roughly how to setup DMZ host on the Linksys router. Now why I learned all this, well basically I am now working for a company that has me go out to small clients who have small networks and fulfill such requests. As many of you know you have to learn things on the fly but luck would have it I get to learn this before I talk to the client. So now I think I have everything in my head and on paper on what to do to make this happen except for one small thing. That small thing I will make a new paragraph for.

The IP of the device (DSL or/and Cable Modem). Now guys, assume nothing, and give me all the possibilities for instance, lets say they do NOT have static IP, and then what are my choices? I was told I could use no-ip.com. If they have static then I am all set. Also the big question, besides calling the ISP provider, if I am on their network, or mine for that matter, is there any tool I can use to find out what my or their DSL/Cable Modem device is using at that time? All or any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

The customer should know if they have static IP, as that doesn't come standard with most home /small business internet packages.

If they have a tech person, talk to him/her...

P.S. I use DynDNS for my Dynamic IPs

I am not their tech person. The person that setup all this is long gone.
