Question

I built a pc for a mate including a identical but PCI modem. Mine is ISA.

He gets much faster Dload rates than me. About 6kb/s were I get 3. I have seen this my self. I know it could be line quality etc... but i was wondering does a PCI modem make a difference?

And How can you tell if you have a software modem?

One final question. I have dloaded lots of internet optiisers and none have had a postive effect. Can you reccomend any?

Once again a big thanks in advance...

Andrew.

ISA or PCI in itself has nothing to do with modem performance. The single biggest variable is phone line quality.

Most PCI modems are software modems, and use CPU cycles to do their work.

What are the brands and models in question?

Need more.
Are they Cirrus Logic, ESS, TI, Rockwell, Conexant, or PCTel chipset?
Are they the same identical chipset?
What are the driver version(s)?
