Browser Problems

I've searched the forums and find that the problem I have is shared by a few, but as yet there seems to be no satisfactory solution. The problem is, in brief, that my browser fails to link at, or even link to, a few sites, resulting in a blank screen with "done" as the final insult! I use Firefox primarily, and attempt IE when it fails, as indicated, with the same result. Both are latest versions. Operating system is XP. When the link fails, I reboot, and the problem is solved temporarily. Only some URLs demonstrate this problem, especially the NYTimes, Adobe, and some others that I occasionally visit. Following the reboot, all is well, but after a few links within the site (particularly, I've noticed, after a macromedia usage), the problem returns.

I have reinstalled the Browsers, performed scans with anti virus, adware and spy programs, cleaned the register and uttered a few bad words, but nothing helps other than the reboot, and that gets to be rather an unpleasant chore after a while.

I would indeed appreciate and magic elixir that anyone might offer.

Don't know if it's a magic elixir but have you cleaned the browser(s) cache?

Yes, I have, and do frequently (just neglected to mention it in my list of attempts!)
