Problems with Apache and IP :<
I have an XP Pro SP2 Machine set up to use for web hosting and, temporarily, an MMO server...
It's connected to my wpn824v2 via an ethernet cable, I have quite a few devices connected to the router including 2 laptops and 2 other computers. Installed: Apache MySQL PHP The game server I have forwarded ports 80 and 433 (or is it 443? I had it at the time...), and 25000/1 for the game. When I try connecting through localhost on the server or 192.168.2.8 (private ip) on a networked pc, it works fine for the game and HTTP. But, when I try connecting through 80.7.13.63, it doesn't work. Ditto for anyone outside of my network... All of the computers on the network share the same public IP address... IP Address and DNS settings for the Network adapter are set to automatic... If you need any other information, just ask. Yes, windows firewall is turned off, as is any other software firewall I can think of. - Cue Out :< |

What error do you get when you try to connect to it externally? Do you see errors in the logfiles? It is possible but unlikely that your ISP could be blocking port 80 to that IP address.

You can test it with Rex Swain's HTTP Viewer.

You need to see what it returns when you try to go to the IP address of your site. You might also need to do this on a computer that is not on your network. I am not sure if it will forward the port internally plus you don't need to do that.

It appears that nothing is listening at that address. Post your apache config file or just the parts that you changed.

That should work for that IP address. By process of elimination I would say that the ports aren't getting forwarded properly. Is this computer with Apache on it setup with a fixed or dynamic internal IP address on it? It needs to be fixed. If it is then try deleting the port forwarding settings in your router, save it, unplug the router and plug it back in, then add the settings back and restart the router again.

I've reserved the MAC address of the network card to 192.168.2.8, so it's always the same now...
I'll try doing what you said and get back to you... The only problem is that there's a problem with my router, it doesn't show up a full list of opened ports, heck, half the ports I've opened don't show up on the opened ports list D: Suggestions? |

Windows XP Firewall. You may or may not have to allow the server through.
Control Panel -> Windows Firewall -> 'Advanced' tab -> Highlight "Local Area Connection" -> Settings -> Check "Web Server (HTTP)" -> OK -> OK. For your game server, you'll have to let the executable through. Hm, I should stop skimming, you said you turned off Windows Firewall... ignore that bit then. In that case: When you type the public IP in, where are you typing it in? In a computer on the same network, or on a computer on a different network? Some routers do not allow loopback connections, and typing in the public IP address either leads to a dead end, or the router page... |

I managed to sort it out, it was to do with my router's port forwarding function.
As I said above it doesn't always list the ports when I open them, so I experiemented and tried editing one that was on the list, and guess what? It worked perfectly >_> Thanks for the help anyway guys, I've contacted NETGEAR about this problem to see if they know what can be done :] |
