Increasing problem with certain forums and Java applets, log outs, reloads etc.

First off, none of this applies here. I see no issues with any of the following with this forum (great job, BTW).

I believe that is what they are called. The links, buttons etc. that are for text formatting etc.
When I tey to use one, I get no response. I try reloading the page, but nothing. This is only certain forums. My understanding is the 'data' (for lack of the proper term) for this function comes from other sources (ad servers?) and it doesn't load into the page. Am I close with this?

Next, I see a increasing issue with forums loggin you out, even though you are still there. After say, 10 minutes of no posting, I have to log in again. Is this some sercurity issue? It's really annoying. Can anything be done about it on my end (other than just keep posting)? Example; I post a topic (as this), leave the page open for responses, reload the page, then try to respond. I then get the login page that I already loged in.

Lastly, I make a post, I get that confirmation page, but then it goes to the forum page, not the thread I'm in or the post doesn't show in the thread I posted. I have to reload the page to see it. Is any of this poor website design or something else.

BTW, I use Opera if it matters, 2k and have no firewall, blockers, filters etc.

My main question is, since it is only a few sites (but getting worse), what where is the problem??

where the forum sends you after posting is set by the forum, unless it gives you in user preferences on the forum to state a preference.

if your psot doesnt show without you reloading check your internet settings and under temp internet files tell it to check for new version of a page every visit.

as for those java input and text editing things where forums try to show WYSIWYG formatting, make sure you have the latest version of java to run the applets, some forums allow you to set a preference for a plain text editor instead of this.

post, click on tools internet options, under temporary internet files click on settings, then make sure "everytime i visit the page" is selected at the top.

if you have latest java make sure your browser security settings dont disable the java applets etc.

I really don't know of many that use Java applets for ads. Most are usually done via javascript. Have you contacted those forums that you are having problems for help?

I did have it set for 'every 24 hours'. I will change that setting and see. I upgraded to Java 1.6

Ok, please answer this, all those 'features' above the reply box, i.e.; bold, quotes & smilies etc. where/how are these from/sent? Are these 'Java' applets that you need Java to work?

I have noticed, if you stop the reply box from loading, these features don't usually work (not sure about this forum though).

Those are javascript mostly. There is a little bit of Ajax used here at the forums. Javascript is a client-side programming language that really has nothing to do with Java, a server-side programming language. They are often confused.

Sorry, yes I know, I can't keep them straight.
Ok, what are "Java applets"??

When/if you stop a page from loading with just enough you can read the thread, usually those javascript buttons won't respond. Where does the 'data' (for lack of the correct term) comes from?

Java applet. Basically they are just a small compiled Java program that runs in your browser.

Applets are used to provide interactive features to web applications that cannot be provided by HTML.
But, that doesn't refer to the radio buttons above the reply box, correct?

the code for the javascript is in the page code, so if you stop the page loading it wont work because it wont finish loading the code. its nto advised to stop a page loading midway.

I used the example of stopping a page from loading since it happens many times pages will 'hang' and I hate waiting, especially when most of the page is visible (at least enough to work with).
