disabling auto-disconnect Vs. connectivity programs

Howdy,

I was getting ready to download one of those programs which keep you from getting dumped/disconnected from your ISP. Then I read a review from someone ridiculing the entire concept as passe: "I used this concept 2 years ogo, when I didn't know how to disable 'auto-disconnect'."

Does anybody know how to do that? I don't know if you have to tinker with your ISP dialer, web browser, or what. If it works, disabling auto-disconnect sounds preferable to having a program running in the background all the time. I am using Win98 and IE5 if that makes any difference. Thanks for any tips/suggestions if you got any.

Carlos

Leave OE open and have it check for new mail every five minutes.

you know, i think that will work

i wasn't getting disconnected for inactivity in the past. then i had to reformat my PC and everything was reset. i just checked and it was only checking mail every 30 minutes whereas before i had it checking more frequently. i didn't really make the connection before, so thanks for the tip.
