IE gives hungapp error message

I am worrking on a dell XPS m1210 which gets hung constantly when using IE. I have done all the usual - spybot, adaware, virus scan and just finished using CCleaner to get this tidy. Nothing in any of the programs was really found.

I also just uninstalled IE7, and am using IE6, but the errors still happen just not that often. It does not matter what your doing or on what webpage, it is just a matter of minutes before IE locks up and gives this message:

szAppName : iexplore.exe szAppVer : 6.0.2900.2180 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

I tried running SFC but it prompts me for the install CD, which I do have. Before it ends, a message says that I need to insert Microsoft XP professional CD #2 otherwise it cant restore some files. The thing is that this dell only has one restore DVD that came with it and not two! I can't figure out why it is asking for CD#2 when it does not exist. I have been working on this thing for a long time and I am running out of options. I might try to repair IE6, but just wanted to see if others have some suggestions. Thanks

Eddie

why it is asking for CD#2
Probably because it's XP MCE.

Is backing up files and doing a nuke and pave out of the question?

hey GLC,

It's been a while since I posted and was really hoping that you would have a chance to see this. You are correct, it is MCE 2005 and it is a really annoying problem that I have been working on. At this point, nuking and reinstalling does not seem like a big deal, just trying to avoid that if possible since my friend has data he would need saved and then put back on.

If I decide to reinstall, is the single DVD that came with the machine sufficient? Also, this seems to be a very common problem as I have seen it all over the net. Do you have any idea of what could have caused this? Thanks

Eddie

No real idea of the cause.

The single DVD should be all you need. You MAY even be able to do a nondestructive restore - and it's even possible it has a recovery partition, hit Ctrl+F11 on startup and see what happens. I'd back up files first no matter what, this should be easy with a USB drive.

I think I will take your advice and just redo the install. I will get a hold of my friend so that I know what it is that he would like saved. Thanks
