Just a minor problem
I know this is possible. When my friend puts his computer into sleep mode it shuts off the network card.
I would like to do this on mine as well. When I put the computer into sleep mode the lights on the DSL modem and the router stay on all the time and with the lights blinking all the time as if I was accessing the internet. Does the same thing when I turn it off. So how do I turn off the network card when I put it in sleep mode or when I turn it off?

Device Manager->Network adaptor properties->Power Mgmt->make sure it's enabled.

I just love this forum.
I was wondering how to get my standby PC to wake when it received a print request. This should do it ! Thanks.

With after a couple of tries, with no luck. Still see the modem lights going crazy.

The funny thing is, when the computer is completly off with the switch at the back. There is still activity in the modem. Why would that be?

If the DSL modem is an extrenal one, then it is basicly self running. when you power off the PC, the modem sees that the PC is not on but it still is active to the phone line. The blinking lights could be some reqest signal from your ISP.

I know this is possible. When I had the external DSL modem hooked up my previous computer and I turn it off it stops the signal to the computer. One of the lights go completly off.
I am not really concerned about it being on. With the activity I see, wondering if stuff is being downloaded and open to attacks. |

If your modem serves dual-function as a router (or if you have a router set up and connected), then you are essentially "always-on", whether your computer is on or not.
