That is normal. AOL will "force feed" you an update every time you log off till your software is totally up to date. If you c-a-d, it will just try to feed you the same update next time. I think since AOL 5.0 was released, there are about 10 updates you have to endure.
Mime virus my @$$ - the only "virus" is AOL itself! |

My brother just got a new gateway @ 3 wks ago. It came with a year's free AOL. They've only had the computer set up for for a week or 2 & are having problems. When they try to log off AOL, they get a message @ a new feature & then something starts to dowload. It says downloading your new feature, enjoy AOL. There's another dialog box showing progress & saying this download will not incur any extra charges (or something like that). He can't close out of AOL until it's complete unless he CAD's, & ends that task. He called AOL & they said it was a mime virus...update Norton & run it. They also gave him Symantec's fee-based # to call. He updated the virus dat & engine, ran it & nothing was found. So, my questions are:
1. Is there such a thing as a "mime virus"? If so, is this what it does? How do you clean it? 2. If not a virus, any ideas on what it is...how to stop it? I don't know anything about AOL (expect to avoid it...hehehe). It's my brother's 1st computer & he's just learning. Thanks in advance. Cheryl |
