Mechadon,
Here is a link to previous messages about bandwith testing: http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000682.html If you want to hook up using ICS, go ahead. Make sure you have two different brands net cards in the main computer so there is no conflict as to the master net card. If you are already set up, then you should be fine. I got a flyer in the mail from TW/Road Runner that says we can hook up a router for two or more computers, set everything up ourselves and RR would only charge $19.95 mo more. This after everyone is already doing it to begin with. Also, our IP's are set for automatic. Hope this helps. Randy. |

First of all, is there a program to track your connection speed with cable? My IP from the cable service is 24.XX.XXX.XXX, now on internet connection sharing when I run IPCONFIG on my second computer as long as my IP number is not a 24.XX.XXX.XXX IP number I am safe against being billed for a second account, this is the way I understand it, but I am looking for a confirmation. I do not want to be billed for two accounts and I want to be sure this is correct. http://ipindex.dragonstar.net/a/24/24_26.html
P.S. The Time Warner guy was trying to tell me that ICS would not work and I would have to buy a router. Do they not want you to share a connection via ICS, because it went in quite easily and works well. He also tried to tell me that 2 network cards would conflict, but I never encountered a problem. I have 2 computers networked via a crossover cable and it works great. Any input would be appreciated. This is a long post. Bye |

To track your cable speed try Netsat live form http://www.analogx.com/
it was recommended to me by someone else here and it does the job! Chris |

Also, I'd recommend going through the registry and net card optimization guides over at www.speedguide.net
I applied their reigistry modifications, and gave the net card 4 megs of dedicated RAM, which improved my downloads from 120k to 170k, and average pings went down about 30%. Xayd |
