Firefox editing

Yeah i think this might not be allowed to ask on here, but i'll be optimistic for once.

I read on here ages ago about either editing scripts, or fiddling with the options o increase the number of commands per second or something like that with firefox (thus speeding it up)

Can anyone reexplain this? AS i just downloaded Firefox by mistake and i've come to realise I LOVE IT!!!!!!! Why not try to increase performance further :P

Sorry if i asked a noob or bad question.

Rowan

I think there's an add-on or plug-in called FasterFox that does what you're talking about automatically.

Just go to Tools / Mozilla Firefox / Customize Firefox and you'll be able to browse all of the different add-ons.

I just tried that but i have a more basic looking version of firefox (on a laptop with Windows 2000) but i dont know what version this is.

I looked in the Addons and Downloads bit in Tools, but there was nothing that looked liked FasterFox.

http://www.tweakfactor.com/articles/...oxtweak/4.html has a good set of network tweaks. Use at your discretion. A number of these tweaks are handled by the plugn Fasterfox. It is in essence a GUI to what you would do with the about:config settings for Firefox.

In Firefox, click Help / About. That will show you the version. You'll need either v. 1.5 or 2.0 to use the Add-on, which can be found HERE.

^ that article is pretty good. it explains what the options are and gives you their recommended setting if you want to go into the manual nature of things.
i heard web devs dont like fasterfox cause it puts so much extra stress on their servers by fetching links before you even click on them

The link I sent is a 5 page article .. please read the entire article starting here: http://www.tweakfactor.com/articles/...oxtweak/1.html (links to the other pages are below).
Quick n dirty answer: you can use about:config in your location to change the values mentioned there... as in type about:config where you'd normally type a URL and press enter.

As rave said, the problem is that too much tweaking really hogs the bandwidth and can disrupt servers. For the line: network.http.pipelining.maxrequests, it is being set to some number like 30, meaning it will make 30 requests at once. Keeping it around 5 or 10 should give a bit of an increase while not causing too much disruption.
