DSL; Reinstall software?

DSL; Reinstall software?

My neighbor had to reformat his HHD and re-install W2K. After the re-install of the OS, he can’t get online. To get his DSL working again, does he have to re-install the software that came with his DSL modem? He’s using Verizon DSL. TIA.

Did he reinstall the drivers for his network card? He shouldn't need to do anything with Verizon's software.

Ditto to the above - He also needs to install the chipset drivers for the mobo.

The 3com NIC is showing up in the device manager after the W2K install, so it apparently installed a driver?

The only time that he should need to install the software would be if you used USB to connect to the modem instead of the NIC.

If it's a plain old bridge modem, he does have to reinstall some kind of connection software. The BEST thing to do in this case is tell him to go buy a router instead or upgrade to XP, it has it built in.

I will do anything to avoid installing the connection software - usually Enternet 300 or WinPoet. It's bloated garbage. I recommend Raspppoe as an alternative.
