web page viewing problem
Can anyone help me out with this problem.
I'm using Microsoft Publisher to make a web page, when I'm done with it, and I preview it everything looks fine. But then when I take that same exact web page and ftp it to the server, I see a ? everywhere on the page that I have more then one space, or certain characters like " ' - actually I see a ? when I open the page in firefox, in internet explorer I see a small little square. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it? Is it my font, it's times new roman font it's driving me crazy! |

I will have to tell you that I have never seen a worse product for editing a webpage than Microsoft Publisher. The problem though is most likely because you uploaded html pages as binary. What did you use to upload the files via ftp?

I'm using ws_ftp LE at home, and a trial version of ws_ftp pro at another location, and yes I have been uploading the pages as binary. Should I switch to ASCII and/or should I check auto
I tried uploading one of the problem pages in ASCII but it didnt fix the problem I know what you mean about Publisher, when you add pictures to a complete web page, and then you save, it likes to rename all the image files again, rather then just adding picture file name thats needed. In other words after making changes to a page you sometimes cant just upload the index.html page and new image, you have to upload the entire index_files directory. |

Switch it to auto. Do you have a link to the page? PM me if you don't want it public.

Use a decent website building software like or similar to Dreamweaver or learn HTML and build it your self.
The source code that results in using this so called website creating software is both unsatble and irratic. It will cause you no end of problems to upload and if you get it to the server you can almost expect further complications, with server software not recognising your code or erros. On top of this any hope of search engines finding it are extreamly limited. Sorry but if your going to do websites use the right tools for the job.
