My preference is Register.Com. It's a good place to do domain registration. Great interface for account maintenance.

$35 for one year.

You could then set up your domain on one of the free domain/web page hosting sites such as NetFirms.Com or VirtualAve.Net.

I've registered a couple of domains with easyspace (http://www.easyspace.com)--$15/yr with 2 yr minimum for .com and $14/yr with 2 yr minimum for .org and .net names. I registered with them and then switched hosts. It was pretty straight forward.

Oops--prices are dropping! It's now $14/yr for .com and .net, $10 for .org.

Maybe you've heard. Maybe you haven't. The end of this year could possibly bring a few new domain extensions including ".shop". They are going to first offer sites like "toy.shop" to "toy.com" or "toys.com" though. If I see any of these offers fail to fall through, it'd be nice to buy "auto.shop" and sell it off to some big name that would consider the $5000 ownership rights nothing but petty cash. =]

I have been using hbdomains.com for the past 6 months after a friend recommended them to me. Fast registration process and only $15 bucks per year...awesome domain management features too...all online unlike Network Solutions which take a rocket scientist just to change you server IP numbers!

Don't let the big companies rip you off. Sites such as register.com.

Go to www.000domains.com, and you'll get $13.50 per year, less than half price of other sites.

Another one is www.joker.com, which you can register for 11 euro, which is about $12USD.

Buying a domain isn't like buying clothes, bigger price tag doesn't usually mean better quality.
