Office email & forwarding

Hi guys,
I work in a relatively small office where the IT guy charges per minute so I just want to make sure I ask the right question.

As far as I know the only phones able to retrieve our office emails are blackberries, so I was thinking about using gmail to check the office mails so that I can forward them to other phones.
Gmail, however, is unable to connect to the server, so am I right in thinking that our office does not use POP3 but IMAP instead? Any other possibilities?

Thank you
dswissmiss
