Need to Block MySpace

I need to block access to My Space on my computers at my business. How can I do this? The PCs run XP with IE7.

Not an easy way to do it unless you have some kind of filtering software. You could edit the hosts file but that is a big pain to do for each computer. The file is in c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc \hosts. It doesn't have an extension but can be opened with notepad.

Add a line like this:
127.0.0.1 myspace.com
and save the file.

Do you run a router or firewall?

If you run a Windows Domain Server, you can just create a Forward Lookup in the Windows DNS service for "myspace.com" and enter a HOST (A) record which points to a bogus IP.

That would take effect for all users in the domain.

I can understand where wanting to do this for one instance may be desireable , but - and I am no lawyer- I'd block it to all to avoid any discrimination/harrassment/favoritsim issues.

Very good point. If the person didn't seem to care about discrimination/even notice it, he/she might just go use someone else's computer.

Another way would be to ask the person to not visit that site anymore.

Ha, yeah. Just say that you are watching them. That'd scare me off of it anyways.
