I can't save jpg's as jpg's, but only as bmp's. One out of 20 will save as jpg. I thought it was IE 5, but upgraded to IE 5.5 with no luck. Running Windows NT 4.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Hi pda,
Welcome to PcMech!

First off have you M$ Photo Editor (or similar software) installed? Where are you saving the jpegs from? Are these images actually jpegs in the first place?

Can you supply more info?

Fred,
On the Net all[at least most] graphics are either .jpeg or .gif. I don't think there are .bmp files on any pages.

No, gifs save as bmp's. You're correct there aren't many, if any BMP's on the internet. I use ACDC as an image viewer. I think it is boiling down to an association problem, but I still don't understand how one or two will save perfectly as a jpeg and the others won't.

perhaps the ACDC file is corrupt. I will reload it tomorrow and see if that helps.

Thanks for the infor and interest.

I'm having the same problem as PDA. I realised that I only got this problem after I upgraded to Win ME.

Even though the file is jpg, I can only save as BMP. I'm just saving my files to my C: drive.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks.

jpg won't save as jpg, just as bmp in Windows ME

I have a 2 month old Dell system with Windows ME. Until last week I could grab jpg off web page in jpg format, now it only lets me save as a .bmp. Have also had problem playing real audio .ram files on some pages. Reloaded IE 5.5, still having the problem. Any ideas?

You might try increasing your Temporary Internet Files cache size. IE appears to save pictures to cache in original format, but convert them in memory to bmp format. If the cache is full or corrupt, you cannot save as anything but the bmp format that is in memory.

You could also try clearing your cache.
