What next!.....
When I try to access many of the sites in my "favorites" list (PC mech among them) IE gives me an error: Internet Explorer cannot open the site HTTP____________ Invalid Argument Where did this come from? More importantly, how can I correct it ? As always, any comments/suggestions are appreciated.......TIA! Keith ------------------ A ship in port is safe, but that is not what ships are made for. |

I don't know if it's related, but this was the only thing in the Microsoft Knowledge Base containing approximately the same error message you received. They say that it only occurs when one clicks on "About Internet Explorer", but it might be related if you have the same system configuration described in the message. Go to:
http://support.microsoft.com/support...-US&SD=gn&FR=0 Hope this helps. ------------------ Jason Padgett padgettj@mindspring.com [This message has been edited by padgettj (edited 08-17-2000).] |

Jason:
Thanks for the response and the link. I'm afraid thats not what I'm looking for though. The post references Win NT w/IE 4.X. The system in question is Win 95(b) using IE 5.0. I'm still open to other suggestions. Thanks again! Keith ------------------ A ship in port is safe, but that is not what ships are made for. |

some sites are now requireing Ie5.5 plus some other enhanses to get the dysplay properly, I had the same problem with sites that I frequentlyed till I downloaded ie5.5, now there is no more problems.
the sites have made drastic changes to the way they are displayed too. |

If you upgraded to IE5, you can go into add/remove programs and "repair" the installation rather than totally reinstalling it. If you are using the version of IE5 that *came* with 98SE, this is not an option without jumping through some hoops - I read something here before about editing the registry to enable this function.

Thanks Bailey....
I'm pretty sure I don't need 5.5..... I'm accessing the net just fine with this, my backup system, which is also running IE5.0. The problem is only on my primary system, although they are both configured similarly. Does any one think a reinstall of IE (over it's self) would cure this? Thanks again Bailey..... I'm still open to ideas! Keith ------------------ A ship in port is safe, but that is not what ships are made for. |

A big feature with IE5 is that
it can be repaired without uninstalling . Here is how to do it . Open Control Panel , Add / Remove , click on Microsoft Internet Explorer , then click on add / remove down the bottom . This opens a window with 3 choices . Choice 1. Add , insert your IE5 install program & you can find other items you may not have installed 1st time . Choice 2. Repair , fixes problems that may crop up with IE5 / Outlook Choice 3. If unfixable , removes IE5 & goes back to IE4 , now if you want to you can reinstall IE5 or a later version or another browser altogether . |
