What Web Browser Do You Use

Hi All,

I have just switched to Opera after using Firefox for quite sometime. I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with Opera. It feels very responsive. I wanted to get other Folks take on what they're using to surf the net.

I've been using Maxthon for quite awhile now and love it. I used to use IE, then Firefox, but now I settled on Maxthon. Started using it because of the tabbed browsing (IE didn't have that at the time) but I really started liking it when I learned how to use their Ad Hunter to block popups. I have dialup internet, so anything like ads that I don't have to load on a page helps speed up my surfing.

EDIT: Oh yeah, 'bout forgot.....I see this is your first post, so welcome to the forums!

I like Opera but it's just not as compatible as FF. I use FF about 95% of the time although I do prefer Opera's features a bit better.

Hi jtm55,

Welcome to PC Mechanic !!

I use primarily Firefox but also have Opera, IE, and Netscape 4.x. Ya, Opera isn't bad at all, but I've already grown into Firefox.

Moved to Software > Internet, since this doesn't qualify as a review.

I used IE7 for a long time but i dont like its active X, so now i use Firefox i love it theres just one problem when i click a new tab it comes up with a blank page, rather than my homepage and i when i check my settings it already shows as "new tab = google homepage" really odd, but anyway just downloaded the google toolbar so i can click the google link there.

I don't have an option of "Google home page" ... but I do have an option for "browser home page." Set it to that, then make sure your browser's homepage is set to where you want.

I've ALWAYS used FireFox and I constantly update it when needed. It's strong variety of options and capability needs are perfectly suited for those like me. I reccomend FF 100%..everything else should just..explode or something

I use Maxthon. I found it to be the most versatile, user friendly, and feature rich of all the browsers I have used. Maxthon's mouse gestures, tabbed browsing, URL aliases, and ad blocking are indispensable to me now.

I use Firefox pretty much exclusively. I don't think there's such a thing as 'the best' web browser, just the browser that suits the user the most. Firefox isn't the 'fastest' out there, and it is memory hungry. BUT, I have it set up exactly how I like it, and that's enough reason for me not to want to change. The 'Foxmarks' bookmark synchronization extension in particular I've come to find irreplaceable - whichever of my computers I add/delete bookmarks on, I know my others will be pretty much immediately updated.

Have you tried any of the alternate browsers? I've tried most of the better known browsers (IE, FireFox, Opera, Maxthon, Avant, etc...) and some of the lesser known browsers (Crazy, Off-By-One, Amaya, etc...) and just settled for Opera as it fits my browing habits the best. I still have some of the other browsers installed on my computer, I just don't use them.

My wife uses FireFox so I basically only keep Opera and FireFox up to date.

I tried Netscape years ago. Other then that, I've basically always just stuck to IE. Never really thought there would be much of a difference.

Opera, although I switch to firefox if something isn't working correctly on a specific site. That's pretty rare, though.

I use to use Netscape regularly when you actually had to pay for it. Then AOL bought them and they went from 4.x, skipped over version 5, and came out with 6 which was total junk. I still keep 4.x on my system and use it from time to time.

Opera, customized exactly how I want it, and updated every week with a new dev build from http://my.opera.com/desktopteam . 9.5 is amazing so far.

Firefox...can you tell by the avatar? I've been tempted to switch to the new Netscape since I've heard good things. However, unless I hear about something revolutionary, I won't likely jump over.

I don't trust Netscape any more since the AOL buyout. Unless they have made major changes, it's simply Mozilla with AOL's bloatware. If you like Firefox and want a full suite, look at Seamonkey.

IE7.
It lets me read and see. Goes backwards, forwards, and stores favorites. It's updated for security reasons only.

Believe me when I say I love Opera, and use it exclusivley on my Linux and XP dual boot boxes. I gave FF a long try and it just didn't make me as comfortable as Opera does. I like the Opera skins and its site too.....something unique and pleasing to the drab web world.

Now my main Vista 64-bit box.....I use IE7 64-bit, it is uber speedy and I have become attached to it. It is more powerful and versatile than it appears on the outside, kinda cool!
