ok i am NOT on dial-up , im on cable. BUT each time i try to do anything internet related a dial up connection box comes up. my question is.... i already went into mycomputer/controlpanels/internet/connection and selected the LAN option but each time i do anything it reverts itself back to the dial up connection option . this is a severe pain in the butt. under preferences in the dialup theres this dialup access program or something its called and i cant erase it . does anybody know what to do ??? help is appreciated thankyou

If you don't have a need for a dialup connection at all, just go in and remove DUN from control panel/add-remove programs/windows setup/communications/.

Can also remove the Dial Up Adapter and TCP/IP protocol from the list of network components as well in control panel/network/.

Can't very well prompt you to dial if you don't have DUN and a Dial Up Adapter...

Dont remove TCP/IP, you need that for your internet.

If you look in internet explorer under view, options, connections, uncheck "use a modem to connect to the internet" or check "use a lan to connect to the internet" i dont have ie5 installed right now, but i think theres a advanced tab that automatically detects settins. do you have aol instant messager? I beleive that has something similar. there could be other software that brings up a modem to connect and I dont beleive theres anything in network neighborhood that will solve your problems. hope this helps!!

There should be two TCP/IP's. One for Ethernet, one for Dial Up. They should be marked as such, with an --> pointing to which one they apply to.
