At the Computing Central bandwidth speed test site I tested my cable connection and it came back with test results of 8160 KBPS and 1000 K bytes/sec. Is this a reliable and accurate test and what are some other badwidth testing sites?

It seems to be pretty reliable for me, but only tests the download side.
There's one over at www.dslreports.com that tests both download and upload sides. Seems to be pretty reliable too. Xayd |

Remember when testing your throughput outside of your provider's network that you are at the mercy of the Internet (overloaded routers, router load, time of day, other companies' bunk routing tables, outages, etc.) Most service providers do not take any throughput testing as gospel except that which is done from within their network. (Just FYI in case you want to complain about low throughput)

Excellent site Xayd.
My MTU is to low and RWIN also. I'm letting Win98 control it. Is that a bad idea? Carl ------------------ My ability to learn about computers is like my bass fishing. It starts out slow then tapers off.

I increased my RWIN at the DSL reports site and went from 404 KBPS to 688 KBPS.

Yeap, those tweaks are definitely recommended.
Improved my download speed from 110k to around 150k (sometimes as high as 185k), and pings went down by an average of about 20-30. Xayd |
