Send a message via ICQ to philmerrin
Lightbulb

I saw on this forum some time ago instructions as to how one may view their hotmail via outlook express. I didnt pay too much attention at the time as my current email hosts deliver to O.E.
However, at the end of this month i intend taking out an AOL subscription i have trialled aol before and didnt particularly like them then, but their current offer here in Australia is hard to pass up.
My main concern however is the poor email security that organisation allegedly have, e.g. The emails flow in as soon as you log on for internet sametime potentially introducing trojan horses to wreck your programs. Is this overstated or real?
If so, i think i'll decline to use the aol emails & use hotmail as my main address. In which case it would be handy for hotmail to deliver straight to my O.E. Inbox.
Any one know how i arrange that?
I look forward to suggestions, thanks in advance.

Actually, as far as security from viruses, AOL is very secure as the e-mail is on their sever until you download it onto your computer.

Hotmail, as long as you leave it on Microsoft's server, is the same. But once you bring it into your computer, via Outlook Express or any other method, you then run the risk of accepting a virus!

Thanks, I followed the instructions, however it nearly works, but doesnt. I leave the default mail as being that from my internet service provider and is checked for new messages first. The hotmail url is checked second only it keeps checking, nothing is delivered either the progress bar doesnt move eventually it all times out. anybody know what i have to do, the fact it attempts to retrieve mail from hotmail suggests that i'm close. Thanks again.

perhaps my last post was unclear, but to get this topic back on the agenda i'll re-phrase it.
after entering my hotmail address details into outlook express, the first thing OE does when i log on is search for mail from my primary email host, soon after it searches for any mail on hotmail address, at this stage i get a pop-up asking whether i wish to transfer files from hotmail into OE. If i say yes it appears to go looking for those "Files", the progress bar doesnt get off the starting block, eventually it times out. If i select no to the transfer of files, it checks for messages. Again the progress bar doesnt progress and that times out too.
The fact it bothers looking, suggests that i must be close to having the correct protocols in OE to make this operation possible, i've tried all possible permutations here, re: proxies, https etc. Can it really work or is this all theoretical?

It works for me, but sometimes mine will do what you describe and I just check it again later and all is well. I am using http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp as the server and then just use your login name and password and it should work.

I use Hotmail as my e-mail address. I don't even use POP3 accounts provided by my ISPs.

But using OE5 for Hotmail isn't an exact science, especially if you have multiple accounts with Hotmail.

Sometimes, Hotmail just freezes due to traffic or whatever. Sometimes when accessing the second account, the first account "sees an intrusion" to the system.

Sometimes, I do have to log onto the Hotmail site to send e-mail. Sometimes, I just wait for another time! But the up side is whether or not I have to acutally go up to Hotmail, I usually ALWAYS get my e-mail!
