I am in need of another push by the folks that are in the know. I will keep it short.
We have our own domain (www)registered to us now for about 6 months. I have the web-site up and running and that part of it is not a problem. I recently had to switch ISP's due to some unfortunate circumstances. When I was with the old ISP (friends) I could have whatever e-mail addys I wanted (whatever@ourdomain.com). Since I have switched, things are apparently not the same as I have had to change a few of them because the new ISP said they were already taken. Since I needed to get the e-mail back up and running I just barely questioned it and the tech dude was a kid and could not have explained it to me anyway I suspect. What I would like to know is if I could do anything within the organization to manage this e-mail problem myself. I have not a clue as to what to do, but I am looking into it and would appreciate some help here. ------------------ Extra Screw? What Extra Screw? |

On our domain i have control over the email addresses i assign as long as they end with "@ourdomain.com. you own your domain name so you should be able to set up email using anyname, for instance.. anyname@ourdomain.com. it doesnt sound right, try checking with another tech support person hopefully somebody will have a better answer for you then the kid.............

ok, checked on it some more today. I can assign anyname@ourdomain.com as long as I have it sent to one of the other mail boxes that are already set up. They are forwarding (kinda) the e-mail. I could have it all sent to my system at 1funguy@ourdomain.com but then how would I the person that it is meant for get it without going to my desk to read it? I dont want to do it that way. This cannot be that tough, I am just having a mental block with it I guess.

You need to find a host that will give you the number of POP mailboxes that you need. We use Webaxxs which gives us 10 boxes and unlimited aliases as part of their $15.95 a month hosting package. We can assign the names to the 10 boxes as we desire.

quote: That is what's called a "catch all" type mail forwarding. Basically they have mail servers that do nothing but relay/route any email addressed to your domain (regardless of user name) to a single account. You could probably figure something out by using filters in your mail client, but it's more trouble than it's worth if you need to have multiple people getting mail. You're best off doing something like glc mentioned. |
