I would like similar info but would want OE to check my mail from my existing ISP (not hotmail) each time I log onto the internet through my ISP. Sort of like AOL. I tried what you mentioned and it started a Hot mail account for me and this is not what I was thinking.
Right now, I log onto my ISP then click on the mail button then select "read Mail". |

Try, in Outlook Express:
Tools\Accounts & select the « Mail » tab. Then click « Add » & then « Mail ». After that...follow the instructions. |

For people with POP3 accounts, they can use ICQ to check the first twenty lines of e-mail directly from the server. ICQ will support multiple accounts.
You don't even have to bring it into your hard drive to respond. You can respond right from ICQ or delete the garbage if you want! If you see you have a lot of spam, you can use Hotmail to retrieve it off the serve and delete it wholesale! It takes a bit to delete individually from ICQ. ICQ delete works good if you want to DELETE ALL. Keeping e-mail off the hard drives seems to make the computer run better. No unnecessary files clutting things up! |

But what if you already have an existing hotmail account?

If you already have an account do this: first add new mail account as mentioned above, when you get to the 'Internet Email Address' window leave the 'I already have an E-Mail...' tab selected, click next, change the incoming mail server from POP3 to HTTP, then change 'HTTP mail service provider' to Hotmail.

Prader, does this mean you can't have two incoming mail servers into Express, for example earthlink and hotmail?

Hey Narts,
Did you manage to setup Hotmail in Outlook? If so post here or e-mail me, I'd like to know how you did it... Thanks, AndyM |

G'day all, as a contributor to this forum who posted exactly the same question a month ago, I'm still trying to arrange for hotmail to be received in my outlook express, while i wont claim to be a tech wizard, i can normally get to grips with straightforward PC setting alterations. I receive mail from my ISP into outlook express, for my ISP i use proxys & POP3. in tools i select accounts and then the mail tab, there i see my ISP account, then i select Add, then mail from the dropdown list of 3 items.A box with internet connection wizard appears requesting details for display name so i put my name there next. the new box requests me to choose whether i want to use an existing email address or a new hotmail, as i've already got a hotmail address i indicate i've already got one to use. From that stage on i've put various proxys & pop3 HTTP details every combination imaginable.
Then when i request OE to scan for received mail. It scans my isp email first no problem, when does switches to seeking fot hotmail, at this stage a box pops-up asking me whether i wish to download folders from hotmail, so i agree, papers appear to fly between the two trays, but nothing is really happening the internet twin monitors icon isnt flashing, nothing. Eventually i cancel that operation. I try receiving mail again same thing with my ISP mail, then on checking hotmail the progress bar doesnt budge, and below that bar it says not connected. the hotmail url it checks is correct that detail is found by OE as soon as i mention hotmail. So yes i'm very frustrated by this whole thing. Thanks for listening. |

First, Outlook Express 5 will handle as many accounts as you wish, POP 3 and/or numerous Hotmail accounts. All POP 3 accounts will be dumped into the LOCAL FOLDERS file. Each Hotmail account will be delivered into a seperate account folder, which will be created as each Hotmail account is associated.
The easiest way to get Outlook Express 5 to associate a Hotmail account is to first go to the HOTMAIL SITE and sign up for an account. Now open Outlook Express 5: From the Toolbar>Tools>Accounts> When the New Window Pops Up, In the Right Corner>Add>Mail Now follow the instructions: Name Next window: Check I have an existing account I'd like to use: enter--username@hotmail.com The wizard will take care of the rest. When everything is done, go back to that account Tools>Accounts>Mail>Highlight the Hotmail>Properties: Now you can give the Hotmail account its own name. This will come in real handy if you have multiple Hotmail accounts. Note that sometimes there are difficulties accessing Hotmail from OE and sometimes the send doesn't want to do so right away! If you are in a real hurry, then go directly to the Hotmail site. If you've already created a new mail, just use COPY & PASTE! That is Copy from OE and Paste directly to the Hotmail site. Then send! I use OE/Hotmail as my permanent address. It works, but sometimes it is a hassle. But the upside is that I'm not dependent on any ISP to be in business! I use free internet services! |
