Accessing Active Directory user details on the intranet...?

Is it possible to search/display user details from AD (name, phone number, position, email) on the intranet using IIS? I'm sure it must be but I'm struggling to find any evidence to confirm it.

TIA

IIS is separate from AD. If you have exchange too, I think there's some involvement between the three.

I do indeed have exchange. But I'm still nonethewiser on how to make this work. At the moment I'm just publishing an Access DB on the intranet but it's one more thing I have to do every time there's a new starter. Was hoping there might be some easy way to do it with AD seeing as I put all their details on there anyway.

I want users to be able to log onto the intranet and access some kind of searchable display of user details. ie. They type in the name of another user, and it gives them certain details like phone number, email address, etc. All these details would be pulled from AD. I've seen a program that does it, so it must be possible, right? I just don't want to pay for it!

I just happened to be flipping through a PHP book today for a project I was working on, and came across an introductory chapter on PHP with LDAP.

That might be something to look into since active directory is based on LDAP.
