Satelite or wireless NIC card

If I have a laptop with a built in wireless NIC card, then I can use that to connect to the ISP
and get internet access, then what is the use of Satelite?

I hope my question is clear

No, the builtin wireless card only connects to wireless routers and Wifi hot spots. The effective range is about 300 feet. It will not connect directly to an ISP.

Thanks Sir, and what about cell phones ? If a cell phone has GPRS enabled, than will wi-fi on cell phone connect to the wireless network of any ISP?
