Comcast email problem

I've had 3 customers in the last month report to me that they can't Delete an email or a group of emails from their Comcast accounts unless they open the email first. The Delete "button" is grayed out if they simply check the box in front of the email. At first I suspected this was a glitch with Comcast but now I'm beginning to suspect it may be related to the SP3 upgrade of XP or AVG 8.0. Anyone else having this problem or know of someone who has?

Are you talking about the webmail interface?

Have you logged into their accounts and recreated the issue?

Yes, the Comcast.net webmail site.

I did with one. The Delete option stays grayed/unavailble until you open the email. Selecting multiple emails for a group action does nothing.

just checked my email through the comcast web based email and no such issue exists. I have XP SP3 with IE7 and AVG 8.0. Might want to poke around the preferences and see if some setting got tweaked.

Ok, we're making progress with this. I upgraded another Comcast email user last night to AVG 8.0 and had them check their mail box. Delete and several other options were grayed out just as the others. Now to pick a little furhter and see if I can determine which component of AVG is causing this. Think I'll take a detour over to the AVG free forums and see if this is being discussed by anyone there.

Uninstall AVG, then reinstall without the link checker and toolbar.

Similar issue

Hey all,

I just had a similar issue. I rebuilt a system XP sp3 with McAfee Security Suite installed and IE7.

When my user opens his comcast mail and selects multiple emails the delete button is greyed out.

I did notice that the advertisment on the right hand side of the page is still trying to load.
If you give it a while eventually it will work.

On a system in the past when i noticed this, i disabled IE phishing protection and the advertisment would just load and we were all good.

No luck with this system.

Seems I was mistaken. The problem wasn't with AVG after all. Turns out it was the Internet Explorer helper (SD) in Spybot. I always avoid the Tea Timer install but I've been installing the IE helper on all machines....not any more!

Can't Delete Comcast e-mail

I've been working on this for three days, and tried unsuccessfully discussing the matter with Comcast. But, after browsing through 20 pages of messages on a Comcast forum, I finally found the solution.

First, I'm assuming that you use Norton Internet Security. If you do, you need to open it up and turn your Ad Blocking off.

Then, in your browser, you need to go to Tools/Internet Options, and delete your cookies.

Then, while still in Tools/Internet Options, you need to click on "Delete Files," check "delete all offline content," and hit "Okay."
(I generally do it twice, once with "delete all offline content" checked, and once with it unchecked, but that's probably not necessary.)

Then, you need to restart your computer.

Problem fixed.

Nope, never will either! The solution was posted right above you, James.
