I'm gonna lead this a bit off track - I installed Opera 9.5 yesterday, and am VERY impressed. It's noticeably faster than 9.27 and the memory leaks are not as bad. FF3 had better be everything they claim it is or they have been trumped by Opera.

I was actually thinking about trying opera on my linux machine instead of sticking with ff3 beta just because of the little problems i keep hearing about.

Guess I'll wait for others to try them both out and report back though.

http://ptech.allthingsd.com/20080605...r-web-for-now/ Walt Mosberg's column .. but he doesn't seem to have heard the name Opera for his comparisons

I'm currently using Firefox 3 RC1 and it's a lot faster than Firefox 2 in rendering and uses up a lot less RAM (60MB now vs. 400MB with Firefox 2). Haven't had any problems so far with this version of Firefox, but I'm looking forward to the official release of it (The official one should be even better than the RC version).

Please elaborate.

Opera 9.5 is the first "next generation" browser to be officially released. (The others will be FF3 and IE8)

I just re-evaluated my statement about memory leaks in Opera - they are actually worse. After 3 days, it was sucking up 318mb - and I had to restart it, it froze up.
