AOL Software

How invasive is AOL software 9.0vr? Is there a way to control once installed? Any other options once installed? What's good and bad about it?

It takes over all your networking, and installs all kinds of adapters. It also has a very heavy footprint.

How does it do that and why? By footprint you mean blogging? Is there any way to have a lite version that is not so invasive? What's an alternative for someone who's hooked on aol?

Thanks.

Is aol your service provider, or do you just use aol mail?

Heavy footprint means it's bloated, sucks up your resources, and is slow as snails. No such thing as a lite version, they shove everything down your throat whether you like it or not, and there is absolutely no way to access the innards of AOL (i.e., chatrooms) or use AOL as your connection ISP without it. You can check your AOL mail and use the AOL website with any web browser though.

Sounds like spyware but a bit harder to get rid of sometimes.

Thanks. It's not for me but for a friend. I've been trying to talk her out of it but it's what she knows. What other ISP could handle the same but with other less invasive options?

No other ISP holds your hand like AOL. *ANY* ISP will get you on the Internet and let you use your choice of applications. *NO* other ISP will get you into AOL's proprietary content and interface. Very few other ISP's *require* you to install their software in order to connect to the Internet.

Charles. This is the reason most of us call it AOHell. I have two customers who still refuse to give it up despite being shown what an intrussive, massive resource hog it is.
