router/firewall/backup server all on one box?

Hi all,

This is mostly just out of curiosity at this point. I'm currently backing up my laptop onto my desktop using unison (it's an open source synchronizer, runs on windows and linux, I connect through an ssh connection). And then backing up my desktop onto an external HDD.
I'm interested in setting up a third, cheap computer as a router/firewall box, and was wondering how bad of an idea it would be to also use that as my backup server. Would that essentially defeat the effectiveness of a firewall box? I'm thinking not, since I'd probably have ssh login enabled anyway.

Suggestions, input, advice?

-Lefty

For part of the answer, you might consider looking at Windows Home Server. You can send images for bother pc's to it and update often...

Personally, I would separate the firewall from the backup box. Kind of a security and performance thing.
