messengers and other programs at start up
I do not leave my pc running all the time. So I have at least one start up a day. When this happens a bunch of the kids programs instantly come up and I do not want them to. But I am too stupid to figure out how to stop them yet. Please help, every time it boots I have Windows instant messenger, Yahoo instant messenger, ICQ, Steam, Intervideo wincinema manager, and Direct CD which I have to shut down just to get started.

Download and install CCleaner, in the tools option you can view "Startup" in here you can choose to either stop something from starting at boot up or even go so far as to delete the entry.
You can do this from MSCONFIG but CCleaner does a neater job and you can also use it to clean up the registry entries associated with those entries. In respect to messenger you will also have to tell your kids to inform messenger not to start when Windows starts, or it will just put itself back in the start up folder, you may have to do the same with Yapoo and ICQ. You can download CCleaner here for free: http://www.ccleaner.com/
