0x80042108 Error

My friend just sent me the following:
"The Outlook mailing program came up with an error of
0x80042108. I cannot send or receive email for some reason."
She has Xp on her computer and is using Outlook 2003. She has no problems getting on the Internet, just with the Outlook Mail program. I was just going to try a System Resore, in case she just downloaded an update and something got messed up. If that doesn't work I guess I need to reinstall Outlook 2003. would I have to delete Outlook 2003 first, or will it install it over top ? I believe there used to be a way that Outlook Express would actually fix itself if you tricked it into remove / reinstall somehow. Is there a similar feature in Outlook 2003 ?
Are there any other better steps to take first ? Many thanks, Mike PS, Her Yahoo mail prorgram still works fine. She also told me that there are Trojans in Quaranteen, but that was days ago. THis mail problem started today. She is running some type of Norton AV / Security .

From what I can find, it sounds like Norton is causing the problem. Only solution I found is to uninstall any Norton programs (AV, internet security suite, etc), then reinstall them and see if the emails work again. I couldn't find anything relating to what to do if the reinstall DOESN'T fix it....I guess find a different AV package maybe.

Only other thing I found that it might be is if she's using SSL in her email login and the provider doesn't require it. If she hasn't physically changed this herself recently though, that possibility is unlikely.

Norton has a history of causing just as many issues as it fixes/prevents.

Update ... I tried talking her through a System Restore, but it did not work. She tried a few different dates and always got a message that said the restore could not be completed or was unsuccessful. I guess I will have to make a visit and see what is going on. Any other suggestions until then are appreciated. Thanks, Mike
