Internet Explorer 7 Just Quit??
Hi everyone,
A couple days ago I was going about my business with approx 3 browsers open simultaneously like I always do and out of the blue they just stop working. My homepage would connect but absolutely nothing else. Here are the steps I took... Did a quick diagnostic test and confirmed I have a working connection to internet Checked 3 other computers on same network, all running the same XP with 2 running IE7 and another IE6... all work fine. I checked my physical connection both in my pc and my router downstairs... fine. Went through device manager to see if my network card was shot... it's fine (looked on back of pc and green light on network card is lit up green) I cleared the cache and history, then rebooted... still nothing works. I then backed up my bookmarks, popped in the XP cd and chose to install IE, which I thought would override the version I had and I was then going to update it to 7 via website. It does the exact same thing...nothing. Hangs up lags and eventually 'can't connect error'. I ran a virus scan and it caught the 'Lop' virus and immediately deleted it but I see nothing about 'Lop' effecting IE? I loaded the setup file of Firefox via CD and it works beautifully but I need IE7 for troubleshooting browser issues with .css. I cannot seem to uninstall IE6 now as I'd like to just blow it away and do a fresh install. I don't see an option to uninstall it via 'add/remove programs'. All I see is a recent software update for IE7 on August 15th. Wonder if someone would have some suggestions/input? Thanks for any help |

This is what System Restore was designed for. Restore it back to a few days ago when it was still working right.

Hi, thanks for responding. Is that my only option? I would much rather blow it away and start new.

Reinstalling Windows is always an option. But System Restore would be a better first option in my opinion. You'd avoid all the hassle that goes with reinstalling everything. But its all up to you.

You can't delete IE - the only thing you can do is uninstall IE7 and revert to IE6. The only way to reinstall IE6 is reinstall Windows.
