IE6/FF3 crashes opening pdf documents

My web browser lately keeps crashing when I try to open a PDF document from a link. It was working fine until recently, but I don't remember exactly the last time I clicked on a pdf link while surfing. I normally use Firefox but I have also tried IE and the same thing happens. As soon as I click on link to a PDF document, I do see the document but it crashes within 15 seconds. I read somewhere that disabling "open pdf documents in web browser" in the Acrobat options helps but that didn't work for me either.

I am using FF 3.0.3, IE 6.0 and Acrobat Reader 9.0.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You might want to try uninstalling adobe acrobat reader, and trying out foxit reader.

See if that gives you problems.

Is it a specific PDF that causing the problems, PDFs from a specific site, or just PDFs from any site?

Adobe Reader has turned into a hopeless intrusive pig. Use Foxit.

Not a specific pdf, it crashes on all of them.

Thanks glc and shadowpr. I uninstalled Acrobat and installed Foxit. No more crashes. Still wondering if there is a fix to the Acrobat Reader. Would going back to Reader 8 help ?

8 is still pretty bloated. Even 7 is a pain, that's what I have on this box right now.

I've had a good experience with 9 so far, although I still use foxit as default.
