What version of FF are you using?
Are you referring to the search bar or the address bar?

version 3.04, sorry bout confusion. I should say it is the address bar, to the far right where you have the drop down arrow to show sites you last visited. For some reason, no matter how many times i clear the history in firefox the same 12 websites are still listed.

OK, sorry many I am the one confused.

On my search bar on the right hand side, using google as the search engine at the bottom of the drop down there is a "clear history" option.

On the other hand, I though your were having the issue of your "favorites" showing up on your address bar...which I found to be a real annoying "feature" of FF3 until I disabled it.

open firefox then in the address bar type about:config you will get a waring about changing the settings. In the filter bar type browser.urlbar.matchedOnlyTyped then double click on the preference name and it will go from true to false, then the preference under that should be browser.urlbar.maxRichResults change this from a 1 to a 0 by double clicking on the preference a window will open and enter a 0

this should work for you

sweet it worked. thanks sir. also, i haven't used IE in a while but if i remember correctly you could easily delete the address bar search history by just clicking a button to delete history in IE. Is this function not easily available in firefox? Ideally i would like to keep the history feature in the address bar and only be able to delete it when i want to like i could in IE.

The "Awesome Toolbar" in FF 3 is a huge mistake no one likes it, hopefully in upcoming updates the people at FF will return it to the way FF 2 acted. However there is a add on named "oldbar" that may revert it to the way FF2 acted, I don't use it but it is located here:
