IExplorer 7 gets stuck on large txt files
BTW I've had this problem with Internet Explorer 6 as well:
Whenever I try to open a large txt file in my browser, IExplorer gets stuck. It does open and show the txt file, but if I try to scroll down it either moves extremely slow (slow enough that it becomes unusable) or does not move at all. I am a frequent visitor of gamefaqs.com, so an example of a large txt file that causes this problem is: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/924486/41854 Does anyone know what causes this problem? Is there a fix? Thanks in advance, David |

I might not be much help, but it looks like it might be a memory issue. Posting your computer specs and browser settings might help the experts with your problems.

Sure sounds like a mem issue with that filesize. But ultimately it all comes down to effectively using files with the programs they are meant to be used for. IE is not quite designed for going through that large a file - especially given the huge overhead of the program itself. Might be a better idea to download the file and then open it with notepad.

If it's that large, Notepad won't even open it - you would have to use Wordpad or a word processor.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Notepad opens these large txt files just fine on both PC's. It is only IExplorer that has trouble. |

While you have 2 gigs of ram, much of it might be tied up with other resources. You might try stopping all processes that you don't have to run and see if it changes the results.
From the little information I found on the web, there are some other things that might influence your browser including the upload and download speeds of your isp, or the protocol on how certain large files are processed. The dowload may be slow and your browser is making the information available as it's sent, but you aren't getting the entire page, which is 826 pages on 8 x 11 sheets. While it may appear to be downloaded, it isn't. Scrolling slows the process even further or locks up the browser. |
