Internet Explorer Problem

Hello, after visiting this site often Firefox is my primary web browser, (typing on it now). However, some of my family prefers IE. Lately my PC (Windows XP, Dell Media Center Dimension 4700C) has been running very slow. I suspected spyware, or cookies, and after running Mcafee scans nothing appears. Now for the Problems, when I go to open up IE I get standard, "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." with no other error messages. I decided to redownload IE completely uninstall it the reinstall it. Still no luck. Then the other odd thing when browsing in firefox, (And only when I'm browsing) I get the same error message saying IE has encountered a problem and needs to close. Even though I never started Internet Explorer. (This occurs every 5 to 10 minutes). I think that there may be something that keeps trying to start up IE, and that is the reason for the reduced speed.

Any Help on how to get rid of this, "thing" and how to fix IE, would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would do a thorough spyware/virus check. Something is evidently triggering IE to start when it's not wanted.

Do you have any recommendations? I have run a full Mcafee scan, and also a Spybot S&D. Still with no yeilding results.

Try avg, or avast, and also malwarebytes.

Run them in safe mode.

Also run ccleaner.com first.
