IE 5.0/5.5 Cookie Settings Disappear !
Hello
I wonder if anyone else has observed this bug in IE 5.0 and 5.5. I have seen it under both Win 95 and 98 i.e. I install IE 5.0 or 5.5 and if you look under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced Settings, there are no cookie settings listed at all (I don't mean that the settings are disabled, they don't exist !). This doesn't appear normal. This situation seems to cause heaps of problems wherever cookies are used. I know I can try IE 6.0 . I just wondered whether anyone had seen this particular problem ? Also, web based ftp downloads in these versions of IE can just stop working completely. I am not just talking about not being able to connect with one or two ftp servers. Downloads initially work after install and then mysteriously stop working a few days or a week or so after. When this happens and you click on any download link on any site/server all you get is that empty "Getting File Information" window after which IE reports it couldn't connect with the site in question. People have suggested to use the IE repair function but this doesn't work. The only thing that has worked is removing and re-installing IE but downloads follow the same pattern until they fail 100% completely every time i.e. Getting File Info is all you get ! Any help much appreciated. Thanks regards The Web Gecko |

Hi Web Gecko,
If you're looking for your cookies setting in IE5, go to Tools > internet options > security > custom level > and scroll down to the cookies settings. There it is. I like to set them for "Prompt for stored cookies" and "enable per session cookies". |

The FTP problem can be caused by a full cache (Temporary Internet Files). Try deleting them through Internet Options.
